About R
R Dunbar is a current student at the Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College, where they are studying for a Bachelor's of the Arts in Music with a focus on violin and composition. They are also working towards a Cinema and Media Studies degree.
Their goal is to combine these degrees and write scores for films.
R's recent compositional focus lies in writing for string quartets, experimenting with texture, color, and various motivic ideas and movement.
R is a prominent performer on the violin, including various roles as a soloist, orchestra member, accompanist, and concertmaster throughout multiple local, school, and professional orchestras. They also have recently been participating in guitar performance, collaborating with peers on a variety of works.
The biggest undertaking of R's current career is the Agnes Tyrrell project under the mentorship of Gettysburg's Dr. Jocelyn Swigger, where they bring to light the forgotten and unpublished works of a prolific and brilliant Romantic-era Czech composer.
Outside of the music world, R is also an artist and enjoys creating in many aspects.
