Composition

R has been working in composition for 3 years. Their previous experience dates back to high school, where they co-arranged 3 pieces from various films for the Thomas Stone Chamber Orchestra to perform, as well as 2 pieces for violin-cello duets.

Currently, R is a student under Dr. Avner Dorman, where private lessons offer wide perspectives on current works and also spur shared inspiration.

R's most recent project is a 5-movement string quartet ("Andromeda") based on the Perseus family of constellations. Each movement ("Cassiopeia" - "Perseus" - "Cetus" - "Cepheus" - "Andromeda") is based on a different constellation and the Greek mythology that surrounds them, exploring the various perspectives, affects, and emotions that encompass a single tragedy. The quartet reflects much of Dunbar's music, exploring intense emotion, expressive dissonances, and rich color between parts.

R's previous experience with the world of film music exists in smaller projects, such as the aid of student's class projects in short film. Their studies in the Cinema and Media Studies department have been creating a full understanding of the world of film and how music plays a role. R has gained a deeper understanding of film music and the emotions it can evoke (through important and relevant courses such as Film Aesthetics and Theory) and is eager to create such emotions through their own film music.

Dunbar is currently accepting scoring and compositional commissions for solo and ensemble works, which can be discussed through individual contact. Rates can be determined based on need, size, length, and dedicated time.
